A Simple Need
A Clever Solution
Background
The e-Step was born from a simple need and a clever solution. Bernie and Karen Garvey, passionate travelers and caravan enthusiasts, found themselves facing a common challenge—safely and easily accessing their caravan, especially with Karen’s leg strength wearing out.
Frustrated by the limitations of traditional steps, they decided to design a better way. With a background in practical problem-solving and a love of engineering, Bernie began developing an electric step that could extend and retract at the push of a button—bringing both safety and convenience to their travel experience.
The e-Step takes shape
What started as a personal project soon caught the attention of fellow caravaners. Friends and travellers who saw the e-Step in action were impressed by its robust design, smooth operation, and the added confidence it gave them when getting in and out of their vans. Soon they saw potential around the home, and other places where low level steps become a difficult proposition. An Occupational Therapist, and then an NDIS provider noted how their clients could benefit from having an e-Step.
Encouraged by the positive feedback, Bernie and Karen realised their invention could benefit many others—especially those with limited mobility or anyone looking to improve their setup.
Now a popular product across Australia
Today, the Garvey’s proudly produce and distribute the e-Step to help others enjoy the same freedom and ease, both at home, and on the road. Each unit is built with care, using high-quality components designed to withstand Australian conditions.
Constructed from powder coated steel and Aluminium, with maintenance free rollers, a non slip surface and remote control 12v and 110-240v operation, the e-Step comes with a base tray for stability and transport, which when inverted, becomes a stable sand platform for those beach campsites. The base is also designed for permanent fixing to a concrete slab beside your outdoor deck or on a timber floor, both inside and out, due to its weatherproof design.
At the size of a medium size suitcase, the non slip platform measures 760mm x 420mm, and with a weight of 20kg including the power supply which is both 240v and 12v, the unit is designed with portability in mind. The handles at each end allow easy maneuvering from storage to operational in seconds, and the included 5m 12v lead with anderson style plugs provides flexible power options. Check out the optional trolley for taking the e-Step to your neighbours!
The Aluminium and steel construction combines strength with weight savings.
A light weight compact trolley is available as an option, for easy movement, and fully independent Battery powered version is coming soon as an option, as is a list of requested accessories.
Whether the e-Step is used to access a caravan, a motorhome, camper trailer bed, mobility vehicle, or even around the house, yard, shed or community centre, the e-Step brings peace of mind and added independence to everyday movement in life’s journey’s.
At its heart, the e-Step is about more than just convenience—it’s about making travel and home life accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Bernie and Karen remain hands-on in their business, driven by the same spirit of innovation and community that inspired the first prototype.
Their goal is simple: to ENABLE, to ENHANCE and to EMPOWER peoples lives.
